Remixer is very easy to get started with. With just a few clicks and a nice prompt you can get a first draft. Ours was honestly better than expected: the design looked polished, the copy was actually good, and it brought our ideas to life in a very coherent way.

Once you have this, you can refine the site by continuing chatting with the AI or you can switch to the visual editor for manual changes. The AI generally understood our requests well, although some layout changes needed a second attemptThere were a few small usability quirks such as not being able to edit something manually, but it wasn’t really complicated to solve. Image requests are limited to Remixer’s built-in AI generation rather than third-party stock images.

Instead of choosing from a library of pre-designed templates, Remixer creates something from scratch.You can (and should!) specify the details, including colors, style preferences, inspiration, and even images or screenshots to use as visual references. With a detailed prompt, our initial design was very good, and when we asked Remixer to create additional pages, they matched that style consistently across the whole website.

You can then ask the AI to redesign individual sections, change layouts, or adjust the overall look, while the Visual Editor gives you more direct control over elements such as text, formatting, and images (although you don’t get the same level of granular control as with a builder like Elementor).

Flexibility partly depends on how well the AI interprets what you want. For beginners, though, being able to describe a design makes experimenting with different ideas remarkably easy.

You can connect your own custom domain to Remixer, but you’ll need a paid plan to publish your site to it. Hosting and SSL are included with the Remixer subscription, so you don’t need to purchase a separate hosting plan. A domain name itself is not included with Remixer. You can register one through DreamHost or use an existing domain that you already own or transfer to your DreamHost account.

Remixer can create multi-page websites and navigation menus, and you can ask the AI to reorganize or add pages as needed, including hierarchical pages with sublevels. In our test, I asked it to create a three-level navigation structure : the example was “Past Meetings > Recordings > Books & Resources”. All three levels worked well. In our chat, the AI also explained that while it could go deeper, “three levels is usually the practical sweet spot for usability,” which we agree with.

Remixer doesn’t have a WordPress-style plugin or widget marketplace. Instead, much of the functionality you would normally add through plugins is built in or can be created by the AI itself – things like forms, online bookings, customer accounts, photo galleries, databases, and online payments (Stripe and Shippo are directly integrated for ecommerce). We asked for it to include an open-source online booking widget and it could easily do that. Remixer can also connect to external services through APIs and server-side actions.

Remixer can create an online store without requiring a separate ecommerce plugin. Stripe is integrated and handles checkout, transactions, and payment processing, while Shippo provides real-time shipping rates, label printing, and delivery tracking. Products and payouts are managed through Stripe, and Remixer can also use its built-in database and user accounts to support more advanced store functionality. And, as mentioned before, third-party services can also be integrated to extend the store’s functionality.

Remixer covers the basic SEO essentials. You can ask the AI to set page titles and meta descriptions, and in our test both were correctly added to the live page’s source code. You can also structure pages with headings and optimize the on-page copy through the AI.

Remixer can be used to create blog-style pages and content, including database-driven listings and resource libraries. However, it does not offer the same mature blogging and content-management features as WordPress. DreamHost itself recommends WordPress instead for large blogs, substantial content archives, or sites with multiple authors.

Remixer does not include a conventional visitor analytics dashboard with metrics such as page views, traffic sources, or visitor trends. It does have a 30-day Project Activity log that can show visitor activity on your live site, but this is primarily designed for monitoring and troubleshooting rather than analyzing website traffic.

Contact forms are built in and can be created and customized through the AI. The submissions you receive from your website can be sent directly to a specified inbox, or you can configure the form to save the submitted data in Remixer’s built-in database.

Remixer supports member-only areas with built-in user accounts. You can restrict pages or content so that only signed-in members can access them, with email-and-password or Google sign-in available. In our test, the AI also offered to create a dedicated members-only hub or gate existing pages such as recordings and resources. It even suggested restricting access to users with an active paid membership, although this specific subscription-based access control is not as clearly documented by DreamHost as the standard member login and gated-content features.

Remixer does not include a full newsletter platform. It can, however, send transactional emails from your website, such as form-related or automated messages. For newsletters, subscriber management, and marketing automations, you’ll need to connect an external email marketing service.

Custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can easily be added through the AI. In our test, we pasted a custom code snippet into the AI chat and asked it to add it to the homepage. It implemented the HTML, styling, and JavaScript correctly in under a minute, including an interactive button that worked as expected. This gives users flexibility for advanced customization and third-party embeds, even though there doesn’t appear to be a dedicated code editor or HTML widget for manually managing custom code yourself.

Hosting and file storage are included with Remixer. Each project has its own built-in storage for files such as documents, images, audio, and video, and you can create public or private storage buckets and set file-size and usage quotas. However, DreamHost does not currently publish a specific overall storage allowance for the Remixer Build plan.

Changes made through the AI chat are saved automatically, while the Visual Editor includes Undo and Redo controls before you save your changes. However, we couldn’t find a documented way to restore a Remixer project to an earlier saved version.

Remixer is genuinely very nice to use. Seeing the AI turn a short description into a professional website in seconds is very satisfying. It’s quite easy to keep experimenting with new features through the chat too. And because changes are usually quick and you can switch to the visual editor whenever you want more control, the process feels creative and stress-free.
